The Illiaster Series
This series, based upon images captured by the Hubble space telescope, has allowed me to examine the natural patterns and energies present in our universe. In
contemplating the processes inherent in these catastrophic events, I was struck by the delicate beauty that remained omnipresent in these incredibly large and complex objects.
The series title Illiaster is an Alchemical term that roughly translates to: The spiritual force in matter which strives towards perfection and towards the building of forms.
I chose this title because I was moved by these pictures of the heavens. They spoke to me of my own artistic intentions; to present a unified and harmonic picture of the intangible substance
that holds our innermost psychological landscapes in alignment with the outer reaches of manifestation.
Whereas my previous series Solve et Coagula, drew mostly from internal states of mind, this new series explores and interprets the external reality shared by us all. This subject
matter allows me to experiment with abstract themes through material that is mostly representational. My aspirations for this series are to coax the viewer into seeing the deep affinities
between all things.
