University Chorus Wins the Bravos Award for 2006

The UNM University Chorus has been selected as the recipient of the Bravos 2006 Award for Excellence in Music. This award has been given for 22 years by the Albuquerque Arts Alliance.

More information, taken from their website, reads as follows: The Arts Alliance celebrates, supports, strengthens, and promotes arts creators in music, theatre, visual, and literary arts. Achievement is realized through advocacy and service efforts and the implementation of the Cultural Plan for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. The awards recognize and honor outstanding achievement in all of the arts disciplines. The awards also acknowledge contributions by volunteers, arts educators, philanthropists, and arts organizations.

The nomination that led to this prestigious award mentioned several activities of the University Chorus:

• It brings masterworks of the choral repertoire to the public in low cost concerts.
• Biennially, renowned choral musicians are brought to Albuquerque to introduce the public to newer works.
• It has started a series of endowed choral music scholarships, one of which has already been fully endowed and awarded.
• It has been instrumental in starting the UNM Children's Chorus, directed by Regina Carlow, starting in January 2006.
