About our Accompanist

Dr. Tetyana (Tanya) Allston is our new rehearsal accompanist starting in the Spring semester of 2009.

She was born and educated in the former Soviet Union, having been trained at the highest levels of musical circles in the Ukraine.

Dr. Allston has been in the United States for eight years and formerly worked in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania before her arrival in New Mexico last fall. She has trained some of the most talented piano performers in the Ukraine and is currently teaching students from the age of six to forty.

She has performed on numerous occasions in Pennsylvania and in Wisconsin with symphonies and orchestras. She is also a cutting edge accompanist, having worked with vocal students at Clarion University in Clarion, Pennsylvania and now at the University of New Mexico. She is available for accompaniments not only for vocals but for all instrumentals. In the Ukraine she was the chairperson of the highly acclaimed music department at Sumy State University.

Dr. Allston's Ph.D is in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Music Education from the Gorky Institute in Kiev. She was awarded the title of Distinguished Teacher of the Ukraine by the Ministry of Education in 1994.
