Each spring, MVAS presents the Lorraine Schulte Excellence in Teaching Award to a local teacher, grades K-12, who exemplifies excellence in environmental education. The $200.00 award is named in honor of charter member Lorraine Schulte for her ongoing work and dedication to the chapter since 1978.
This year's winner of the cash award is Bill Curtis, 7th grade teacher at Vista Middle School in Las Cruces.

On April 21st, 2004 we honored 7th grade teacher Bill Curtis from Vista Middle School. He was the proud recipient of the 1st and 8th Lorraine Schulte Excellence in Teaching Award. It was very special to have Lorraine Schulte award Bill with his certificate. Bill continues to be a most caring and conscientious teacher encouraging his students to care for their environment and to help preserve the natural beauty of our earth. His students travel to the Bosque Del Apache, Elephant Butte Dam and other places learning about good conservation practices. He recognizes the diversity within his student body and encourages each and everyone of them to consider pursuing a career in fields that will impact their environment. |
