The Rio Grande rises
in the San Juans off the upper left, swinging southeasterly at Alamosa,
and then south and southwesterly as it slices the Rio Grande Gorge
through the Taos Plateau.
From west to east: Sierra
Nacimiento;
the Jemez Mountains (notice how plainly you can see
the snow-covered Valle Grande with its volcanic features rising within the
Valles caldera)(and to the north of the Jemez, the Chama River, with its
Abiquiu Reservoir);
the Rio Grande;
the Cerros del Rio volcanic field (that's the dark smudge on the right
side of the river;)
...well no, you can't pick out Santa Fe, or even the Santa Fe River,
although Rio Nambe and Rio Santa Cruz show up clearly to the north;
and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Mesa Prieta, a lava plateau west of Albuquerque. Rio Puerco is barely visible
directly to its southwest.
