August 2010: We had a great time at Ceili at the Roundhouse Celtic Festival in Evanston, Wyoming on June 18 and 19th. It was great to be part of such a crowd of musicians. All-day bands, evening concerts by Old Blind Dogs and Molly's Revenge, and late-night sessions with everyone.

Gordon and Sky attended Zoukfest in June in Albuquerque, which once again blew their minds. Such an excellent world music camp. A year's worth of material absorbed in a week!

Doug Goodhart came to Los Alamos this past weekend for lessons, workshops, and a house concert. He taught fiddle, whistle, bodhran, and probably several other styles and traditions over the course of his 3-day stay. The power went off just in time for his concert at Bette's house, but the candlelight went well with the beautiful music Doug made. We'll have to get him back again soon!

Looking forward to playing for several community events this fall, as well as a Scottish ball around Halloween. Hope to see you at one of our upcoming gigs..

April 2010: Whew! March was busy and in some cases quite a stretch. The Rhythm of Fire performances went well -- I guess we'll see for sure when the DVD comes out! The youthful dancers knocked our socks off, and we worked hard to lay down a solid beat. St. Pat's was fun as usual at Central Ave Grill here in Los Alamos. We were joined by the Filer family, quite a talented bunch with music, dance, and singing. The Empty Bowls benefit provided the opportunity to play while being accompanied by the clinking sounds of soup consumption.

May will bring a Contra (5/8) at Odd Fellows Hall in Santa Fe. Come join us!

We're happy to have been accepted to play at the Ceili at the Roundhouse Celtic Festival in Evanston, Wyoming on June 18 and 19th. The venue gives us the freedom to try some non-dance arrangements -- mixed tempos, solos, and other surprises. The headliners include Old Blind Dogs and Molly's Revenge, so we're pretty excited to be able to hang out with them during the sessions.

March 2010: We're gearing up for a busy month of March.

On March 6-7, we're excited to be accompanying Belisama Irish Dance Company's Rhythm of Fire performance at the James A. Little Theater in Santa Fe.

We'll be playing again for Self Help's Empty Bowls benefit on March 13, 12:45 p.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center in Los Alamos. Come buy a bowl, enjoy some homemade soup, and support a good cause.

St. Patty's(March 17) will find us back at Central Avenue Grill, Los Alamos. We'll be starting up around 5:30 p.m. and will be joined by some of the Bellisama dancers mid-evening.

August 2009:  We're gearing up for a contra dance on August 15th, 7:00-10:00 p.m. at the Los Alamos Unitarian Church, 1738 N. Sage St. (Teaching starts at 6:30). Katherine Bueler will be calling. Proceeds go to the Los Alamos Friends of the (Animal) Shelter.

June 2009
: We enjoyed a busy fall and winter (see the updated calendar page), and we're cooling our jets a bit now and working on some new tunes and arrangements.

Bette wrote a new song ("Planxty Jo"), and we're having a great time figuring out how to play it as it sounds in Bette's mind!

Cathy T. and Cathy H. had a great time at the recent Irish dance festival in Santa Fe.

Martin, Cathy H. and Gordon are heading to Zoukfest in Albuquerque on June 12-14.

Bette and Sky are heading out to the Sierra Fiddle Camp in California. Time for some serious rejuvination!

March 17, 2008: St. Patty's at Central Avenue Grill, Los Alamos, 6-9 p.m. We're excited... professional sound system and professional sound engineer on the board! You'll hear every chuckle and grunt....

November 10, 2007: Contra Dance in Santa Fe; Odd Fellows Lodge, Cerrillos Road; 7:30 p.m.

September 2007: It's been awhile since I've updated the site, but I'm getting caught up. We've had a busy few months and are looking forward to Scottish on Mondays this fall and a Contra Dance in Santa Fe in November.

November 2006: Los Alamos Contra Dance, Saturday November 18th, Unitarian Church, 1738 N. Sage St. (near 15th and Canyon). Instruction at 6:30, Dancing will be underway by 7:00. Alan Wadlinger calling. Childcare provided, but children are welcome to dance. Money collected at the door will be donated to three great causes: an orphanage in Uganda; small business seed money to help Africans who have AIDS keep working; and a Church that supports informal orphanages, particularly a woman in Durban who is raising 50 AIDS orphans on her own. These humanitarian funds have been organized by Maureen Barraclaugh, a Los Alamos artist who went to Africa in the summer of 2005 as a volunteer to work with families affected by AIDS. She has been fund raising by selling her photographic portraits of people and paintings from the trip. She wires funds directly to recipients in Uganda and South Africa. This is a remarkable local effort to make a difference. Marueen Barraclaugh's art will be displayed at the Contra and available for purchase. She will attend the contra and speak about her trip during the intermission. All of the money she raises goes directly, with no overhead, to those in need.

Contra Dance and Hambo Workshop, October 7th, Durango, CO: Well, Jim and I didn't expect to have to be Warm Bodies for the workshop, but we both learned to Hambo rather than accompanying the dancers! Cathy's big-note reels went well, and the melody trades seem to spice up the tunes!

Los Alamos Contra Dance, Saturday June 24th, Unitarian Church, 1738 N. Sage St. (near 15th and Canyon). Instruction at 7:00, Dancing will be underway by 7:30. Alan Wadlinger calling.

We enjoyed a surprise visit from John Chambers, of the Boston-area Roaring Jelly, who joined our jam session one evening in May! John, it was fun to meet you and your wife and get more connected...unfortunately we had TOO much to rehearse for our upcoming Highland Games and not enough time to simply jam and visit. Drop in again when you're next in town....

Come hear us at the Catamount Bar and Grill (125 E. Water St., Santa Fe) on St. Patty's Day! Pipers at 6:30, RJ at 7:30! Then, once you're out of bed on Saturday (3/18), come eat soup, listen to our music, and support a great cause (Self Help, Inc.) at the Empty Bowls luncheon at Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos.
