Janet and I are going up for an afternoon ride around Santa Cruz Reservoir on  Friday.  We then will stay over in Chimayo for the Club Ride on Saturday.  Anyone who is interested is welcomed to join us for the Friday ride or come up a  little later for a nice dinner.  It’s a beautiful part of the state and there are a number of B&B’s in Chimayo.  If you plan to dine with us you should  RSVP so we know to expect you and get reservations.  We are planning dinner at  Rancho de Chimayo Restaurant.

Saturday’s ride is an out and back along NM 76.  There are a number of small  towns along the way and people can choose their turn-around point.  A round trip  to Penasco is around 53 miles and is our tentative destination.

Possible accommodations if you want to overnight:
Hacienda Rancho de  Chimayo (This is where we are staying)

Trinity Site – Sat. Nov. 2nd

Time: 7:45 am

Contact: Kay Dwyer/Paul Matthews 268-9309

X, 38 or 72 miles, 1-3. Ride meeting place is the Owl Café, San Antonio, 10 miles south of Socorro. All riders sign in at the Owl Café and sign waivers. The 72-mile riders will leave from there. The 38-mile riders will drive to the Stallion Gate, where they will begin their ride. We will all regroup at the Stallion Gate before entering White Sands Missile Base. You MUST come with proper identification to enter White Sands. This means a photo ID that you must carry on your person while on White Sands.

There is no food or water along the route, so come prepared. Port-a-johns are available at the gate and at the Trinity Site. The ride will go to Ground Zero / Trinity Site only. We will not be able to visit the ranch house this year.

Trinity is the site of the first atomic bomb explosion in 1945 and is normally closed to the public. Through the kindness of Jim Eckles we are a "special group" that is allowed access to the site. Riders must not leave the road due to the presence of unexploded ordnance. There is no vehicular traffic after the Stallion Gate. There is some uphill elevation going to the gate and obviously downhill on the return. Once on the base, the road is virtually flat. The scenery is wonderful, as the area has not been grazed since 1945.

We need a general head count so please email Kay & Paul at bentriders@comcast.net

Since there is always the outside chance of that a hiccup (AKA a government mission) could be scheduled for our ride day, check the ride line (237-9700) before leaving for the ride in case of a last minute cancellation.

This is a combined ride of the NM Touring Society, the Chile Pedallers Tandem Club and ROAR Recumbent Group.

That’s all Folks!
