Lyndsey & Dennis Morris (Chile Pedaler Founders) News Update
Editor’s note: I heard L&D had gotten a recumbent tandem so asked Lindsey for an update of what they’ve been doing. What she wrote back follows. Lindsey is the person who started the Chile Pedalers when she
and Dennis lived in Albuquerque. They are now living the life I dream about.
Last year we decided to travel on the West Coast after spending about 3 years
traveling up and down the East Coast. We drove to San Diego in March after picking up our new Lite Speed Ti Tandem in Plano TX, and when we got out here
we found that lots of our friends had started riding Easy Racer recumbents and they were having so much fun and going so fast that we just had to try
it. Dennis got a Tour Easy and I got a Gold Rush, both made in Freedom California at easyracers.com. We were up at Port Angeles, WA where we had
participated in the Northwest Tandem Rally in July and on our way to Breckenridge, Colorado, we stopped and visited and rode with Lynn, Harold and Henry. That was a great time!
We did the TROC (first annual tandem rally of Colorado) in August and found that we loved the riding in Summit County, Colorado so much we bought an RV
lot between Frisco and Breckenridge. The whole county has super bicycle paths connecting all the little villages and the riding is wonderful. We
stayed on there until the cold weather got to us in mid September and went back to Maryland to Larry Black's tandem weekend where we tried all the
various makes of recumbent tandems. We finally settled on the Barcroft Columbia which is built in Falls Church, Virginia. Ours is number 007 and
has lots of spec stuff being tried for the first time. We have worked out the bugs and love it.
Our recumbent bike group out here in San Diego emailed us of plans for a
train/bike tour of the coast, Santa Barbara to San Diego the first weekend of March so we loaded up 3 tandems, 2 recumbents and 3 wedgies (which we intend to leave at our lot in Breckenridge for visitors to
ride) and headed on out here. The tour was last weekend and we had a wonderful ride - keeping just ahead of all the rainstorms which hit the coast over the weekend. We did not
get a drop of rain on us in the whole 240 miles.
We plan to ride our tandems with the San Diego Tandem Club as often as
possible and our recumbents with the other groups from now until June 15 when we will go back up to Colorado to spend the rest of the warm months. The
second annual TROC will be in August sometime and we highly recommend it!
We will end this year riding in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and South
Carolina on our way back to Florida in late October. This winter we will base out of an RV resort in Venice, Florida and spend Thanksgiving week at Fiesta Key down near Key West.
Putting it all down like this makes the year seem so short!
The riding here in San Diego is wonderful and the club is active. If anyone
is down this way be sure to let us know - we do have a couple of extra tandems to share, one is a Tuesday.
