Setting up Windows XP

From the Start menu, select the Control Panel.


If XP is in Classic View, find and open Internet Options.
Otherwise click Network and Internet Connections,



then click:

On the tab labeled Connections, click on Setup


*If this is the first time the wizard has been used, you will be prompted to enter location information.

Enter your country and area code .
Leave carrier code blank.
Enter the number used to access an outside line if needed.
Select Tone and click Ok.
On the next screen click Ok


Click on Next


Select Connect to the Internet
Click on Next


Select Set up my connection manually
Click on Next


Select Connect using a dial-up modem
Click on Next


In the ISP Name field type Cybermesa or any other name to identify the connection.
Click on Next


In the Phone number field, type your local access number without any spaces or dashes.
Note: If you require 10-digit dialing in order to access a local number, make sure to include your area code.
Click on Next


In the User name field, type your email address without typing @cybermesa.com.
In the Password field, type your password.
In the Confirm password field, type your password.
If the computer is used in a low security environment (i.e. home or family computer), then
you only need to uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection.


If the computer is used in an office environment, and higher security settings are needed;
Uncheck the box next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.
Uncheck the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.
Uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection.
Click the Next button.

Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop if you wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop.
Click the Finish button.
You have successfully created a Dial-Up Connection in Windows XP!
