Deep Listening Institute fosters a unique approach to music, literature, art and meditation, and promotes innovation among artists and audiences in creating, performing, recording and educating with a global perspective.
Deep Listening Retreats, founded in 1991 by Pauline Oliveros are for ear minded people. Deep Listening is a form of meditation based on experiencing heightned awareness of sound, silence and sounding.
Daily activities with instructors Pauline Oliveros, Heloise Gold and Ione, include seven hours of daily ritual, attention to breath, listening/sounding meditations, T'ai Chi and Chi Kung movement practices, practicing silence, journeying for expanded creative resources, listening through dreams, tracking listening with sound journals, exploration strategies for creating and performing, scoring, writing, drawing, and creative movement sessions in the magnificent mountain forest.
Among those who attend Deep Listening Retreats are musicians and artists interested in expanding their understanding of sound and its effects on the body, meditators interested in enhancing their depth of practice through listening, teachers who want to encourage appreciation for listening in their students, and people interested in creativity, well being, relaxation, excitement and connection with others and the environment.
